Stop Smoking... Start Quitting

Here’s some simple advice to help you over stay Smoke Free.

  • The two days immediately after the treatment are your most important.
  • During this time the Endorphin levels in your body will continue to rise. As the levels increase, your body will start to detoxify up to day 6 when the levels start to return to normal.
  • The initial IQS treatment is just the beginning, over the next week you will notice some completely normal symptoms.
  • Here’s what you can expect:
  • The initial hours after the treatment are critical. If in the first 48 hours you are finding it increasingly tempting to smoke you must contact your IQS Quit Smoking Centre. Some 30% of people experience the need for a 2nd treatment, so contact your IQS Centre to arrange an appointment.
  • You can take some simple steps over these 1st few days to add to the effectiveness of the treatment.
  • Drink lots and lots of water. Around 3 litres a day is a good guide. Water flushes your system of all it’s waste products and chemicals and over the next couple of days your body will be removing Nicotine and other substances left over as a result of smoking, water helps it on its way!.
  • Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. The vitamins and minerals they contain will help with your bodies natural detox programme.
    If you want to snack and don’t like the idea of fresh fruit and vegetables then you could try cereal snack bars or low calorie crisps.
  • Try to avoid coffee and alcohol. Both of these substances counteract your bodies detox programme. Remember it’s only for a week or so, you have the rest of your life to enjoy a coffee and a cold beer and glass of wine.
  • A large part of Smoking is about habit, so break it. IQS has dealt with your physical addiction, now you can work on breaking those mental patterns that form your smoking habit.
  • If you associated smoking with certain places then try to avoid them for a week or so. Avoid places where there may be smokers, it’s only for a week. You should have a longer life to enjoy those places after all.
  • If you often smoked while driving or after meal, why not try and replace that habit. Eat mints or chew gum. Wearing the IQS badge will give you something to tap or twist as a replacement action.
  • Don’t worry if you feel a little restless, many IQS Ex-Smokers have reported having difficulty concentrating in the first few days after the treatment.
  • Your Urine & Stool may change colour. This is normal. In-fact it’s a positive sign. It shows that your body is successfully removing the toxins left by years of smoking.
  • You may experience a restless night’s sleep. Remember your body chemistry is changing for the better. Your other systems need to adjust to your new healthier physiology. As an IQS Ex-Smoker your sleep patterns will return to normal. In-fact may IQS Ex-Smokers have reported experiencing longer deeper sleep.
  • Day five or six after your treatment is an important marker. It is around this time that the bodies systems are returning to normal. Your follow up appointment will be scheduled at this time, but if you need additional support then you can call the IQS team for advice and guidance.
  • Remember, your body has changed. Your body chemistry has been improved, Nicotine and it’s dependency has been removed from your physiology. You are now Smoke Free.
